way to go promoting your own book in your nfo ;P
but impressive to have a roguelike in 512 bytes!

cool
Amulet of Yendor retrieved! My only complaint is that there is hardly any challenge whatsoever. I think an easy fix would be to decrease the health on every step, and increase monster spawn rate a bit so monsters will block doorways more often, forcing you to fight. That way, players would have to make some meaningful decisions, and since health=food, that'd even make sense flavour-wise. Anyway, this rocks big time.

Thanks for your comments @utz! Yes, the monster are really peaceful, also don't pursue player, so you can "navigate" between them. The most easy change would be to put more monsters. Decreasing health as you walk would use at least 10 bytes more.

More/harder monsters was my first thought. However I'm afraid it wouldn't be an improvement, but rather just make the game more tedious, since the optimal strategy would still be to avoid fights whenever possible. Well, maybe you'll find those 10 bytes eventually ;) In any case, it's very inspiring to see how you removed so many features, yet still managed to retain that distinct "rougelike feel".

Seeing so many CALL instructions in your code, I'm pretty sure you can find those 10 bytes.
