not just US. Remember I run a party in Mtl.

: D

(And maybe someday there will be a Canadian party run by Canadians again).

Although I'm wondering if panamerica would be better to say, because then we'd have six living or visibly gestating parties instead of five --

Blockparty, Pixeljam, @party mtl, @party, the Sao Paulo party, and Demosplash
Is Blockparty happening btw? the website still says "September 2011", so either it happened elitez-only or...

The rumor mill says it will happen in December, but the lack of any official updates makes me uncertain.

There was a lot of miscommunication when it comes to the date.
Blockparty will happen early next year. Invitation is all done and it should be out in Jan/Feb. It will be last Blockparty but there is rumor about new demoparty. This time in NYC.
cheers

re "early next year"

oh please please say it's NOT at Easter. : /
Didn't it used to be on Easter? Nothing wrong with that I think.

Haha whoops, was thinking of Blockparty :)

I hope it's not at Easter, because then it'll clash with PAX East.

And um . . . some parties. And stuff.
Quite so, but PAX East is an event that people that live in the north-eastern United States can attend without too much travel difficulty (and do, in fact, in huge numbers - even demosceners). In terms of real-world logistics and making those hard decisions, it's a factor.

I don't think it will be at Easter but we are still waiting for the official date so we can change some of the gfx in Blockparty invitation.

So anyone knows how this went?

If you're talking about Demosplash, email from the orgos sounds like it went well. I don't to post on their behalf, but I'll send them the link so they can say something here if they want to.
I'm currently living in Austin, Tx, any sceners around here?

P is for pictures. You click on them.

Demosplash 2011 was a cool demo watching party. I got see several demos running on real hardware for two days straight. The dual screen presentations about the hardware they ran on was a nice touch. The computer they used to show PC demos had multiple sound cards installed which was awesome. COVOX, GUS, ADLIB, SB16? No problem.

Amiga, Commodore, Atari, Spectrum, PC, Windows were all covered. Even the Lisa Demo they presented at PixelJam

BB Image

I went to their embedded demos talk where they showed this custom board designed to run LFT's Craft demo. They also showed Phasor. I got a chance to show Duino Demo and some development slides. I learned a few things from their Android Phone Hacking and introduction to Embedded Reverse Engineering talks.

There is nothing quite like watching Numen load from tape in a large dark university auditorium.

BB Image

The only thing better watching loading screens was watching 23 (movie) while partycoding a prod in processing.

BB Image

For a dry site, they had *EVERYTHING* stored in endless cases of beer. WTF

Thank you Demosplash crew for hosting this event and for the free cookies. I had fun. BB Image
Thanks for the report Luis! I hope this isn't the last we'll see out of CMU CC. Notacon PixelJam 2012 comes around on April 12th-15th. Blockparty is probably sooner, but is unstuck in time. Hope to see y'all soon.

Hey, I'm one of the event organizers from the CMU Computer Club. We do want to do this again (the event is actually an expansion of an event we've done for a number of years, a 1 evening demo watching party that was only advertised on campus), and hope all of you who came out enjoyed it. If any of you have suggestions on how we could improve this event or better promote it, just let us know.

Luis: Thanks for the photos and kind words, and we're glad you enjoyed the cookies, we had more of those than anyone could possibly eat. As for the beer boxes at a dry event, yes, we actually use those to store a lot of our retro machines. While we were very lucky that Carnegie Mellon's Computer Science Department graciously allowed us to use their space for the weekend, unfortunately we can't get away with serving alcohol on campus because of university regulations that could get us in trouble and get you in trouble.

A couple of folks I know from IRC where there, interesting stuff!

Did Steph and Kevman introduce themselves by any chance? Just wondering if they ever got into the hubbub or stayed at the back chatting on IRC :)

They're starting to help out with shows on Scenesat Radio, so it might be an interesting thing to look into for some potential audio interviews with some of the attendees there at some point when they are into their comfort zone with that sort of thing... When I mentioned doing something like that, Steph seemed enthusiastic.

Really glad to see this sort of thing happening over there :)

re Luis: Awesome Luis is made of awesome. I am not exaggerating. Without you there would be far less documentation of the recent North American see (viz your photosets from @party, where I am too busy to think about such things)

re: ClarusWorks
As noted in email discussion with one of your orgos (or maybe even you, as I don't know his scene handle) I look forward to you doing it again. Sorry to miss it, but I'm not always reliably able to get away for the weekend during SCUL season (but next time I'll see about talking Dr Claw into it).
What's up m0d, I think steph was chatting all that time. I've seen her
on #scenesat during the party.

Luis, nice pics. Ramon was asking how Demosplash went. I think we should
put this link on desire fb page.

I wish Demosplash was compo based instead of
demowathing event. Perhaps next year?

Nice to get a writeup on the event for people who weren't able to come -- sounds like a fun event! (however, next time - please take pictures of the crowd as well -- from the above images it looks like it was just that _one_ visitor :)

re gloom: sounds like they had around 40 people.

Speaking of headcounts, he first @party was ~40, the second ~20 (third should be bigger, we're moving into the city for that reason), and the first Montreal event was 10+ during the day and packed to the walls at night (we have a cap of 50 people at the next Montreal event). Not a Solskogen, but we can dream . . . : )
