Demos with side-by-side stereo vision (aka. "3D") support |
| category: offtopic |

Does anybody know any demos with support for side-by-side stereo vision? I'm only aware of a video file of numb res provided by Smash. @Smash: unfortunately this video file seems to be broken (no valid avi?!), maybe you still have a have a working version? |

simulaatio party much? |

i think there's an ASD demo with that, but i am not 100% sure. maybe it was mfx or synesthetics or something. it had some whirling splines at the start of demo if i remember correctly. |

|
@yumeji: Thanks for the hint, but i only found some more anaglyph stuff at simulaatio :-( @rudi: Thanks, but I don't remember a ASD|MFX|STS with this option :-(
Just tried the iz3d driver as a workaround: instant crash on some demos, black screen on some others, but some actually work ;-) |

The TG04 invitation and Solskogen 2004 invitation both have an undocumented side-by-side stereoscopic mode; add -stereo on the command line. (There was a privately released version of the TG03 invitation as well; I think the support came in only after the party, but I can't remember exactly.)
Both are pretty much untested — it's not like I actually had a 3D monitor at the time. |

@sesse: thanks - just tested both invitations and it really works!
(but lacks proper support for 16:9 resolutions, which is usual for releases from '04)
@all: any more hidden switches in your releases? ;-) |

How about using a Nintendo DS for a 3D stereo vision -capable demo? You know, flip the device sideways and you'll have one screen per eye.. ;) |
|
|
|
for numb res video check you have the codec, its x264 if I remember right. use vlc :) .. we tried it on real hw so pretty sure it works. |

There is this video (cross-eye, but does not work very much for the screen shot)... OpticVision. |

|
@el-bee: well, there are a lot of possible ways to display stereo vision, e.g. i have a big plasma screen with shutter glasses and support for side-by-side stereo ;-)
@smash: i don't like vlc - but for you i just downloaded this thing (again ;-) and it just does nothing when i open "numb_res_stereo3d.avi"

I'm pretty sure this file is completely broken :-(
@f-cycles: thanks, but the perspective is not right for side-by-side stereo |

rufusul: The file works in MPlayer for me. |

@sesse & smash: this is really weird... i downloaded this file again -> now it works! apparentlymy first download was fucked up somehow?!

third dimension by Cryptoburners of course :) |

Wrote an article some time ago about such demos. SandS released a anaglyphic 64k intro in 2010. |

I suggest to add checksum files, especially for large downloads, to avoid wasting time on unnoticed broken downloads and to have more time to make demos about it. |

Quote:this is really weird... i downloaded this file again -> now it works! That's not really the definition of "really weird" though :) |
|
|
well, it's not side by side stereovision, but if you had two monitors set up, this is another 3D demo

Keep them coming! I'm sure it's just a matter of time before this is a standard feature. Someone should make a demo for the Oculus Rift that launched a Kickstarter this month. |
|
|
I've done a 3D-SBS conversion of 'Hartverdrahtet' a couple of weeks ago. Currently only on Youtube. Maybe I'll do a realtime 3D version when the Occulus Rift is released :)
