domain questions

as i probably have the biggest international audience here, I want to consider your opinions on a certain topics, fellow sceners.

I've been living with ath.cx domains for a long time but now I finally want "real" domains. Unfortunately, I can't use .net as a TLD as one of the two domains I want is already registered.
Now, there is a biiiiig and important question of course: Which TLD should I use instead? There aren't many possiblities. com? no.... info? naaah... org? omg!
What I finally came up with is .eu and .de. Now this is a question especially to foreign (non-german) people as you are a target group of my website for sure as well: My website is German and English, so I don't really think it's a good idea to register .de domains. But what is your thought? If you see an URL that ends in .de, would you click it? Would you think "I won't understand it anyway, so I'll ignore the link"? Or something different? Please tell me, your opinions is important for me.

My opinion is: "I'll visit the website: surely I'll find an English traduction and if I'll don't find it... Google will be my friend :P"

Because if I'm really interested in such thing, I'll visit anyway, also if that website is wrote in Chinese.

is it like this? i do not think so. Like not all .com sites are automatically english.

i dont see a disadvantage having a .de site...

Yeah, but com is a "language neutral" TLD anyway. Country-specific TLDs are mostly serving monolingual content, of course there are exceptions. Most people I asked so far rather vote for .de though, but I need some more opinions, really.

I always think of .com domains as the default international tld, even if they are not commerce related.
.de sounds german (duh) and .eu sounds somehow political but maybe it's just me :)

Maybe: unrestricted gTLDs (in 2009) :)

Just from the domain, I'd assume .de would be german language, and click on something else unless I was really interested. .eu... dunno, I've not come across one yet :) It's clearly european, but beyond that...? I guess I'd give it a go. But .com, .net, .org or whatever would be better I think.

Why not .com or .org ?

I think .de is the best choice for you (you will be see as a "german artist", but a lot of ccTLDs website have an english version).

(btw, .de tld is the most used after .com, ahead of .net !)

Unless it's one of the historical freebie TLDs (hello there, .tk and .cc), I can say that the TLD is the least of your problems.

Decent content begets decent attendance.

wullon and others: .com is not my "taste" and it's already registered as well. But I guess I'll have to take the .de...

Yeah, .de isn't so bad, even I have a .de domain for my personal site and I speak maybe five words in German. .de domains were much cheaper than .se at my webhotel and they are just two letters at the end. I'm not going to pay extra for a shitty 's'.

Most of all I'd like a .su domain but I hear those f*ckers are really expensive, like a $100/year or so :)

I has [url=http://sagamusix.de]new domains[/iurl] <3
I decided for the .de domains in the end and I think it's a good choice. Oh and while I'm at it, you can download a new track from my website now which has been presented first in the Sundown 2008 streaming music compo. :)
