It’s been a week or so since (Edit: Much more now) I was banned from pouët.net, together with L.C.F., parse43 (Now prof_paardenkut) and ShaneTheXxxx and I’ve been thinking. Did I deserve it? Did ps do the right thing?

I don’t deny my trolling. I don’t deny the nasty pictures. But this is not a good representation of me in general. I doubt many pouët users have seen me elsewhere on the internets, but usually I’m a calm, well behaved person. My behaviour on the Pouët BBS was the exception. The reasons for doing it was because “everyone else” did it. when I first posted on the BBS, I was shocked by the attitudes exhibited there. First I tried to fight it, then I tried to adapt. Then, maybe I took it to the extreme. Maybe I tried to become a master of “pouëtization”. I don’t really know.
The point is that, even though it was discussed before the ban-blitz, and ps and other highly ranked people expressed their disapproval, I thought it was more or less ok to behave in that way. Look at the following disclaimer from the BBS:

Before you start or reply to a topic within our noble oldskool pouët BBS you should be advised of the following characteristics:
1. The Pouët admins are in no way responsible, or willing to ever be, regarding their users behaviour.

The oldskool pouët BBS is mearly a forum for sceners, with obviously too much free time, to release their frustrations and advertise some scene information for salted communitary feedback, as opposed to polluting the prod comments section.

In fact, the oldskool pouët BBS is a snakepit ZOO full of deadly traps and flamebait chocolure for all sorts of careless sceners. So enter at your own risk, try not to feel easily insulted and remember: please don’t feed the trolls.
If you’re a newbie to the scene or a missplaced outcast scene legend about to make the mistake of attempting civilized conversation within our halls, please forgive our users for their careless idiocy, mindless absurd behaviour and extended internal jokes, try not to take things too seriously.

The pouët.net BBS became my preferred place to, well… be a dick. To let off steam, act on impulse etc. Which is something I rarely do otherwise. (Now that the disclaimer is changed and the staff is trying to change the attitude, I’m willing to change too)

For example, a popular argument against unbanning me is the snooker picture, which is a picture of a man with a snooker cue pierced through his scrotum. I can tell you what I was thinking when posting it.
Parapete started a thread about the Bobby Davro Snooker Experience, a clip from an old satire radio show. I thought it sucked, so I went to Google images to find some picture to make a bad joke and get everyone in the mood for destroying the thread. What I found was instead that image. Try image-googling for Snooker to see the picture yourselves. So, to kill the thread, I posted that picture. This was an act of impulse, which as mentioned, is not my usual way of behaving. It was not my original plan to post an image like that. I was thinking that thread would just die a peaceful death, which was true until someone dug it up again after the bans.

Another thing That most people might not have noticed was my little troll battle parse43 and ShaneThe{insertrandomwordhere}. I hated both the attitude and the stupidity of parse43. I hated him since the first day he showed up and tried to advertise some wannabe cracktro crew of his. I bombed him with the phrase “so… are you vegetarian?!” which made him freak out. (Btw, that phrase was not invented by me, but by rarefluid, and the timbalanded by me) Yes, I also posted something else in that thread, which was a direct reaction to parse43’s animal killing pictures. The ratio pf his pictures and mine is exactly 1:1.
What less people know, is that about the same time as that, parse43 sent me a mail with the following content:

There he was with his threat, which he thought was going to make me mess around less with him. Instead, I went all public and posted the thread parse43’s naughty secret.

Living an otherwise dull life, trolling like that is kinda fun. What’s the point of talking about this? Well I want to make sure that whatever happens to my ban, parse43 will keep being banned.

Another thing that has been said is that I shouldn’t be placed in the same bag as the other three. Parse43 is an idiot. L.C.F. is apparently some form of pothead. He was practically unbanned since he created a new account that was not banned again. He stills occasionally says nonsense on the oneliner, but rarely actually comments prods or submits them.
As for Shane, I don’t know much about him. He’s probably a dedicated scener that just happened to be a troll. I don’t have an opinion on him.
So, who am I in the same bag as? I think Optimus. I know he was once banned for something, I don’t know exactly what, but I guess excessive spamming. Even though he was obsessed about the demoscene and visited every party he could, and I’m not obsessed about the scene like him, I think the motivation for our behaviour patterns are similar. Just a theory though.

Have I been missing pouët much? Actually no. Being banned has released a lot of time hat I used to spend on the site. But sometimes it’s nagging me when I want to comment a prod or leave a comment on the BBS or oneliner. Not trolling, maybe a useless comment, maybe sometimes something that people would even find useful and constructive. If/when I get unbanned I will start out by commenting a load of prods I’ve watched while I’ve been banned. That’s a promise.
