freeze: 30% of gießens inhabitants are students, but there's 0 social life (less than in Göttingen anyway). I lived there for 6 years, but really grew to hate it. I really tried, believe me...
Still have some good friends there though.

Hessians? The last time I heard about Hessians was when I learned about the mercenaries the British hired to fight for them in the American Revolutionary War (or, as I like to call it, the American Revolutionary War)

They gave up on that one years ago. In a 1996 referendum Berlin votes yes, while Brandenburg didn't vote much at all (out of the ~20% that did, most voted "hell, NO" :)).
