bus from tampere (airport/not) to helsinki? |

hey finns, can anyone tell me some facts on a possible bus going from tampere airport to helsinki? some people told me there is such thing while others tell me it's impossible...
or else, what would be a solution to get from tampere to helsinki for an acceptable price? (no, the normal finnish train prices are everything else than acceptable)
i'm arriving in tampere on thursday at 17:50 and, guess what, i want to get to assembly of course... :P although if it should be that the cheapest way to get to helsinki is on friday morning or something, than i would stay at some friends' place in tampere overnight. i just don't want to spend 30+ euro for the damn train.
would be glad about any info. |

from the tampere-pirkkala airport there's a bus going to helsinki at around 18.10 (or when the people from the flight get on it) and it's 25 euros one way.

dipswitch, you are student right? train from tampere to helsinki(which stops at the pasila station next to assembly) is 10-12 euros for students. the bus which goes from the center of tampere is about the same price also. though, i don't know how much it costs to get from tampere airport to the center of tampere...
and you should definetly come to bzm straight from the airport. |

Train and bus from Tampere to Helsinki costs about the same and finnish trains are much more comfortable than any bus. So I'd recommend getting to Tampere railwaystation and go by train.
I doubt foreign students get any discounts, since you need to have the finnish student card, with a VR (national railway company) logo in it, but you can always ask if any discount would be possible.
If you want to get cheap, try to get a ride with some Tampere-scener. |

in case you have no ride or get no student discount i'd recommend taking the the bus from the airport. going to the center of tampere first and taking a train or a bus would take longer and be a lot more hassle. you probably wouldn't save much money either (maybe some 2 euros at most, maybe not even that) |

Indeed. The bus to the city center is 6 euros and without student discount the train to Helsinki is over 20, so it's just easier, faster and even a bit cheaper to take the bus straight to Helsinki. |

I'd like to travel around in finland, but our car driver has to come home asap after the party. maybe next year. |

also you should be warned about the mosquitos.
The lakes are wonderful but the mosquitos are many and relentless. |
