ok but where's the glory of making a 4k ? if you have the skills but it does not fit in 4k, just make a 64k ...

I think making comething cool in 4k even with d3dx will probably still require a lot of skills. But maybe Win+D3DX should be added as separate platform?

Maybe not?

people should use all the (dirty) tricks they can. the demoscene isnt about being nice to eachother, following the rules etc.. its about faking, cheating and getting away with the cash!

d3dx does not really matter, because matrix code is not on the critical line. if someone can make a good 4k, then it's most likely that one has already learned how to handle those matrices.

Matrix code maybe isn't, but what for example about precomputed radiance transfer, which can be computed during load-time? ;)

krzysiek: it's not like there is a "make precomputed radiance transfer on my scene (and please make the scene too)" function for 4ks.
there are a few useful things in there, yes (e.g. some comparable things to the glu library), although i would say it's still more useful for 64ks.

shame they also lost support for windows 2000 and vc6 in the dx sdk now, though.

A few months ago I started writing a document about things related to 4 KB intro size optimization. There isn't much focused resources in the web related to the topic, so I figured out that it would be nice to have a site which tries to gather any relevant info and related web links to one place.

Since then other things have kept me busy so that I haven't had much time to finish even first public version of the document, so that parts of it is still just in shape of a table of contents.

However, my intention was that the document would be updated with contributions from ones who want to share info. If there's 4 KB intro makers who'd like to contribute, please write me some E-mail. From this thread it seems that at least there should be some interest in having some documentation like this. :)

Here is a compilation of resources made into a "intro creating kit"... http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/resources/docs/nd_4kb_intro_kit.zip&file info

Enjoy.

well it's funny that this pack is 45mb large, if you'd pack up every single 4k ever released, that would still be way much smaller. so its size is not a good ad for this pack;)

if you took the whole pouet archive of 4k's, you could prolly put them all there 13 times :)
