a good music player on Mac that can handle Impulse Tracker files?

category: general [glöplog]

I'm talking about players like XMplay and similar. Any ideas?

"xmplay" is based on bassmod and bassmod exists for macosx. Theres an example player in the package without playlist support, i bet someone has made a "real" player out of it. You should really ask on mac.scene.org or #macscene on ircnet tho.

id really recommend

cocomod seems to play them well.
I use Schism Tracker for playing mods.
When I need it.

just managed to get buzz running on a mac via parallels desktop a couple days ago, if unstable as fuck buzz manages to run, im sure xmplay or modplug will also. actually i think i tested it with modplug a few weeks back and it did work fine afaicr.

ps:try buze

distance: i did, thats how i manged to get it working on the mac actually. :D the regular buzz just did the typical "self-explode without warning while trying to load" performance. it would probably work if i'd remove machines one by one till finding the culprit though but i was trying out the new version of buze as it was.

renoise is a really fine tool, but it's way of handling IT fileformat is just terrible. for example, I don't think it plays _any_ of IT's effects correctly. and when loading an IT file, renoise also tends to loop samples it shouldn't. I don't what's that all about.

renoise doesnt
1) save .it
2) look like impulsetracker
3) .. have a impulsetracker interface
4) have a keyset for impulsetracker

therefore impulsetracker, schismtracker and revisit WIN, renoise is fun for those plonkers who liked ft2 and wotever else from the start.

yes. plonkers. let us have our impulsetracker fun. it was always faster.!!

well renoise isn't around to deal with old formats, thats the thing with it :)
Schism tracker is based on mod plug replay code, which is well.. not very accurate for anything.

bruce, they are fixing, fixing and fixing the modplug replaycode thus making it actually much more precise. schismtracker people are, that is. any bugs that are encountered, when reported, are fixed - if properly detailed.

Luckily nowadays Renoise can be lua-scripted to have ImpulseTracker like keyboard shortcuts. Which is nice.
Check out Paketti.
