Uber scene database, opinions wanted
category: general [glöplog]
ok, i'm playing the bitching one this time...
demoblog.php - oh, finally i know why it's supposed to be there... seriously.
lists.php - yeah, ok, drop me a mail when i can delete items or you do it for me :P
i'm not trying to bash your work - i really appreciate it and i understand the hugeness of the tasks involved. gasman helping projects to evolve could be nice for you, and maybe also getting more collaborators for specific tasks?

makc: you already can delete items, use removeitemlist.php i implemented it couple days ago. read changelog.php now and again ;)
gasman: regarding the limited number of downloads in Pouet's DB, it should be fairly simple to alter the db to allow that, and make a short script to move the data from their actual/limited form to the flexible form.
I'm sure the same could be done for other features.

So errrm...
Who the hell is going to enter the data for all these new categories? OK, the newly released stuff won't be much of a problem. But, just as an example, what about the couple of thousand prods in the NoFragments collection that I'm uploading atm? I'm not going to waste any time on trivial stuff like individual credits, if people want to know about that, they should simply watch the demo.
Anyhow, please don't let my opinion kill your motivation for this plan. Actually it would be great to have all this data available.. It's just that my lazyness prevents me from getting too enthousiastic too early in the process ;-)

ps the thing is, all these random php pages appear out of nowhere and they aren't discussed in the faq or linked from anywhere, so its really hard to even know they exist, much less make productive use of them.
lists.php -- never heard of it until someone mentioned it in a bbs post (probably you); its not linked anywhere nor is it discussed in the faq
changelog.php? -- never heard of it, its not mentioned in the faq or linked from anywhere
demoblog.php -- same
etc.
these features are nice, but you have to do more than make a parenthetical comment in the humongous "fix me beautiful" thread for it to be truly useful.
Speaking of which, try using the bbs search here for "demoblog" and you'll get a link to the 300+ page "fix me beautiful" thread without a pointer to whichever page that demoblog is mentioned. Not really useful IMO... if you search the bbs it should take you directly to where the hit occurs, not dump you off at one end of a humongous thread leaving you to scour through it for the one comment that mentioned your search term

bottom of the page, version number

demoblog.php -- same
user page, "demoblog view" link.
HELLO!
Yeah, a tiny obscure link on a version number makes it obvious that this is a link to a change log? Why isn't it in the FAQ, which is about the only thing even approximating some sort of explanation of what's on this site?
user page... I don't go to my own user page unless I'm changing something. Again, this needs to be in the faq. Obscure links in infrequently visited places do not constitute documentation.

Oh yeah, never mind that "demoblog view" doesn't do anything useful.
Gargaj guess what, been there done that. My search turned up a "news" page with a link to changelog.php3 which doesn't exist.
Again, to search for "changelog" you have to know there is a changelog, which misses my point entirely. Google is also not a substitute for documentation or an entry in the FAQ.

that's why if you look for it, you find out.
legalize: the reason they are so hidden its couz they're still beeing developed.. i have plans to reformat the topbars and main index when the features are fully working.. there are also some other stuff like comments.php?com=20 also not linked from anywhere. it's all lack of time for development.. :/ half-done stuff...
but really, if you're a common pouet user, you should spot the changelog.php sooner or later.. it's abit hidden but you can access if from all pages... not to mention that it gets spammed on the oneliner and the fixmebeautiful kind of threads every time something changes... but i agree it should be in the faq, it needs an update, madenmann has been bitching about that too..
...or maybe he was just requesting it. Who knows?
i'll pick up one point of legalize post as constructive criticism.
i'd find it useful too to be sent to the first page of the bbs topic where there is a match. then it's easy to use in-browser search functions.
there must be an index of posts and you have the user formatting info for topic.php, so it appears to be quite easy (well i don't really know how the pouet db is organized).
maybe worth the last line of the todo in changelog.php?

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING ON POUET THIS INSTANT OR I SHALL BE FORCED TO WHINGE!!!!
"add link to demoscene.tv stream on prods"
that would be the greatest noob-friendly feature ever :)
(but what about the extra traffic on dtv ?)
please boost its priority on todo list ;>

ps: hiding something until its ready-for-primetime is perfectly reasonable.
However, there are people on pouet who respond as if these not-ready-for-primetime hidden-until-useful things are supposed to be perfectly obvious to people who don't spend their time 24/7 on pouet posting pictures of pigs or yammering about bass and Hasselhoff.

legalize, madenmann: there, faq updated, now fuck off with your whinning you bitches :)
zoom, nice :D
Hello, I've come to bump a year-and-a-half old thread with a big obnoxious image.
*the actual uber scene database, in a currently indeterminate state of uberness*
*assorted thoughts on its uberness or lack thereof*

is there already a possibility to add credits to products? if so, i can't figure out how...
ahhh, looking good! although I think I fucked it up:
http://demozoo-encore.torchboxapps.com/productions/37787
but seems more dynamic than pouet and good to have something tableless too :D
