What was the first demo party?

category: general [glöplog]
What is generally agreed or accepted to be considered as the "first" demo party or copy party, and when/where did it take place?

Umm, this might get a bit confusing, since demo and copy parties are quite different things :)
Furthermore, can we consider local copy meetings as demo parties? Probably not...

Anyway Tomcat should know this, since he did some research for his book...

Interesting, yes, but nothing conclusive in that thread. I've received similarly styled answers on #c-64 IRCnet :)

Where can I pick up this book of Tomcat's!?

24-26.07 The Danish Circle party.
----------------------------------
Held in Soroe (Sorø), Denmark by The Danish Circle (TDC) in an old scout
hut. About 200 people showed up for the weekend-long party. It was held the
same weekend as the more wellknown Danish Gold party, also in denmark!
Thanks to Spirit/Dominators for the info!

24-26.07 Danish Gold Copy Party.
---------------------------------
DG87 was held in Odense, Denmark for the c64 scene. It was announced in
cracktros from DG, and confirmed from other sources. The attendants voted on
'cracker of the year', and the competition was won by Mr.Z/Triad, followed
by Laffen/Raw Deal. It was held the same weekend as The Danish Circle party,
also in denmark! It was also at this party that Razor 1911 amiga was
originally formed.

Is that the same person as Rawer (Lassi Tasajarvi) who is publishing a demobook?

I think I've answered my own question. I've seen the FREAX site many times before but I don't see any release date or place to buy it. :)

Hehe. Of course. Just like my own Product 3 magazine. :)

Rawer's production is in the completed stages right now and I expect it should be available for purchase very soon. The goals appear to be much different though, Tomcat is trying to tackle many of the difficult historical questions (although I'm not convinced they've been answered) while Rawer is aiming for more of a coffe-table styled booklet that serves more as a conversation piece with lots of photographs and such.

Tomcat has indicated there might be a release party at some tiny party in some August in some country that starts with an F. Florida, I think. Or Foreignia.
I think you mean Austin... Austin, Massachusetts?

Where can I find information about this book? Heh, I was in Twilight with Tasajärvi years and years ago...
From Rawer's homepage:

Working on two books about the demoscene! The first titled Demoscene - the Art of Real-Time (in English) is released at the Sonar festival in June 2004 and the second (in Finnish) in 2005.

would even be better to put it out at koneisto, atleast more sceners would be doing gigs there.. oh well, whatever..

tour promotion already planned to assault asm and koneisto, just sonar beeing the kickstart place. oh well, enough sceners in barcelona at the time to make it a fun event i guess. =)

Hi everyone!

I think this was the first place to break the news :) A little sooner than I expected :)

Here is that official info that I'm now posting around:
