A demo for Spectrum 128K + DivIDE, which also happens to be the official music video for the new song Kiss Kill by Candy Says.

(Visuals are part realtime, part streaming video, all run on the Speccy. Audio isn't from the Speccy, unsurprisingly. :-) )

Really nice!

Any chance for a 100% Speccy version, with a Speccy cover of the song ? :p

Wow, this is more than just a pure video player. It combines effects with the video. I think this is a world first for an 8bit, I mean not just a full video but with this style of videoclip with combined effects. (Ok, there might be other examples I am missing, but haven't seen something like this style combination, so clever)

Absolutely loved this, great mix of effects and video.
ZX Spectrum with an infinite amount of almost instantaneously accessible storage is the situation that will take some getting used to!

For the hardcore...

Emulator version (.hdf disk image and boot snapshot, tested on Fuse)
Real Spectrum version (.tap and data files for use on a DivIDE with ESXDOS - must be defragmented!)

(for the full effect, you'll need to provide your own copy of the song. But it's on the band's homepage right now, so that's OK)

p01: oooh... possibly :-) Actually, it occurs to me that with some hacking of the video stuff, this would be ideal for the ZX Evo with NeoGS soundcard. Wonder if I can get any takers for that...

Cool idea and some really nice visuals, even though the music was generic as fuck.

That was quite cool, not a fan of the music either - but mate - what you did with the sync there - I totally saw it. Nice work, and ace you landed that gig - well deserved! You rock! <3

Now that's a strange watch. Half serious music video, half speccy demo. It works though, both as a demo and a music video :D

Exactly what i thought. Btw i liked the first minute best. Very dynamic editing and the running man was way cool (and reminded me of certain ASD demos). You archieved the perfect symbiosis of video and realtime effects there. I Love it! (And yes, i even enjoy the music.)

great buildup, at first you think its a really slow streamer, but it shows more and more, great design, also cleverly picked video sequences, avoids showing high freq pictures mostly closeups ;) I also like the musical style. now I whish the next version has some cartoon style clash avoiding rendered anims, and more demoish music, going more wild :)

I wonder... The program/data supposedly will not fit into a one 640Kb diskette (heh). But if it's forced to go from FAT of the Z-Controller too, You could make a full version, with music: for NeoGS.

Very cool! Surprised to see such a prod be an actual music video. Clever exploits of the gfx limitations. Reminds me of the streaming/expanded C64 stuff like BluReu.

Whilst parts of the ZX scene are busy worrying about the future of the platform or what constitutes a real Spectrum, and scene dramas threaten to derail any interesting discussions.. people like Gasman just go ahead and do amazing stuff.

Looks cool! Pace and syncing feel really good! I'm not 100% fond of the colors of the first scenes in relation to the actual video though. Also the two halves feel disconnected somehow, a bit of reuse of the video-effects shown in the first part could have maybe connected them better.
Anyway. Great ZX music video!

YERZMYEY/H-PRG: What does NGS stand for?
added on the 2013-07-20 20:14:37 by AntDude AntDude
Cllsoe call for a thumb up, the music nearly ruined it, although it has real potentional, I found it kinda lacking in living up to the hyped feeling it creates.

Visuals were awesome though, and that rotation trick was neat!
rulez added on the 2013-07-21 15:04:06 by numtek numtek
AntDude: NGS is NeoGS (or NewGS), which is newer version of GS, which is in turn General Sound, which is ... heh, soundcard for Speccy, which has its own Z80 CPU running at 12MHz (24MHz for NGS) and capable of playing amiga modules. Try looking here: http://www.nedopc.com/gs/ngs_eng.php
