Work hard until you eventually make a demo that makes everybody gasp. Try to make new effects or learn how to implement old ones, and try to make them better.

I'm sure he'll get the hang of things and I wish him luck, but the demo is lame. He deserved a better place than Honda Gay though for sure.

You could try to put it in to 64KB, or even 4KB.
That textures can be generated by code, and then you won't need DevIL and other DLL's.
