Sadly I don't have Pentagon SL so I had to watch the prog on emulator.
In the emulated way the music has died in a half of the demo but still the prog rulez as well as the new ZX Spectrum model. |

I don't like the FM drum sounds at all, and I even stopped wondering about the full-screen effects after I read about the use of acceleration. But anyway, thumbs up for supporting such hardware :) |

Some notes about the hardware:
The mainboard is plain Pentagon 1024SL 2.x of 2005 that means we still have around 80000 t-states in colour-per-pixel mode and around 100000 t-states in spectrum screen. Some effects (tunnel, rotator and falling screen) are in spectrum screen for this reason.
NeoGS runs Z80 at 24 MHz that gives us around 440000 t-states because of waits of DMA transfer. No FPGA acceleration used.
DMA transfer here means the mainboard reads NeoGS memory instead of ROM. The typical NeoGS-to-screen loop is ld d,(hl):ld e,(hl):push de.

How did they do the screen with a dragon, there are colours not available on ZX and 1x1 px colours and this is not interlace, something must have been changed in the architecture. In the .ini file of UnrealSpeccy emu I found a colour mixer where for example 47 = 4 + 7 (green + white = light green).
Is this a new machine Pentagon SL or is it only emulated on PC? If so, we can run Z80 at 2GHz, increase resolution to 1280x960, extend ram to 500 GB and we'll have a PC emulator. Is this fair? |

This demo is for the real hardware, and it was shown on the party using the real hardware too. Those 'colors not available' are simply so called 'chunks' (sort of dithering) in 16c mode, where every pixel has own color from standart ZX palette. If you'll look at the picture with zoom, you'll get the idea. |

This is not for the machine called Zx Spectrum, not even for the 128, thus it should be in a new platform. Pleople might get tricked into thinking this is a ZX Spectrum demo, and open a bottle of champagne. |

wood: yeah, and and todays PC isn't called a PC. Today's Amiga isn't called Amiga. Platforms developes, luckily. So think before write.
And after all, if I call you a wagtail it doesn't mean you're not human anymore (or it does?)

As for champagne, ZX people opened it many times before, because many 128K demos are simply far better than this one. |

Yes, now I see there are 15 colours, but defined 1x1 and there's a big difference between the bright 1 and 0 in the Alone's palette. The sound chip is also different. I haven't heard about P1024SL before and I hope it will not share SAM Coupe's fate. If SAM was brought into production in 1986 instead of ZX 128 it would be a serious danger for Atari ST, and in 1990 any of the big labels didn't produce any software, it is only kept alive by enthusiasts (usually great programmers and musicians). |
