Have to come back to this from time to time. Still can't get over how impressive this is. Even rippling water, ffs.

When did it beat out heaven seven?

I'm sad to see Heaven Seven go down, but what do? At least I can give this my thumbtacular support, hoping it will exceed debris.

Long overdue thumb.

Let me think ...

Q1. How many extra megabytes of libs & other stuff this "4K" needs exactly to be run?

Q2. How this can be in the same cathegory like for example Amiga 4k intros, executed from no startup-sequence/no workbench/no DX libs etc.?

After all ... it doesn't impress me when I think of it's REAL SIZE when watching.

mccnex
that approach would render any attempt of sizecoding with 3d acceleration senseless.
added on the 2012-11-22 09:24:08 by wysiwtf
Well, then maybe lets stop calling it "sizecoding" as it does not seem to be anymore...?

We don't need no operating system.

"How this can be in the same cathegory like for example Amiga 4k intros"

Nobody ever said it was...

lol!

The target platform clearly states "windows", and not PC or Amiga. The way to access graphics hardware in windows is either through OpenGL or DirectX. These guys chose DirectX, so your arguments are invalid, mccnex.

@slyspy - it will pop up when you select 4K cathegory in the search options here...

@xtr1m - so you confirm this prod requires not only an operating system installed but also extra software to be run. Whole load of megs. I completely agree, no doubt. Just please accept this philosophy of making demos does not make me any extatic. No exceptions. It's just another eyecandy for a powerful PC... Thats the way I see it...

mccnex: That is an age old argument, people are well aware of it, nobody cares.
added on the 2012-11-23 14:30:04 by revival
who cares what kind of an environment you need to run a production as long as the end result is impressive...
added on the 2012-11-23 15:34:58 by noby
@revival, I care, so it's like nobody +1 :) Ok, that would be enough, I said what I meant to. Now may the others continue their oh!s and ah!s on the prod...

Wait, it's a windows prod using libs that were default for anyone who knew what "GPU" meant when it was released. A 4k in the windows world is just a lot different than on amiga or dos; it still means designing for the size and packing a lot - definitely size coding. (well, maybe a bit less with crinkler around)
