Some very nice scenes, but overall I am left with a kind of small nagging doubt that it would work better as realtime.

It's ok. The soundtrack is good, but an underwater theme and D&B don't go together too well IMO. And yes, this would've been way better in realtime. :)

I don't like the comments about making it realtime - Not everyone wants to learn code or difficult programs
- it's nice to improve any compositing, composition and rendering skills also.
Plus animation compo definitely needs more this stuff :D !!

Was puzzled by the seeding of this in the compo (believe it was the very first to be shown), but maybe that was to keep people from wandering off if they had started with one of the (imo) dull video productions...
And yes, to be a realtime-wannabee is ok! :D Hope to see more like this in future animation compos.

This was really enjoyable! Seems like TRSI is getting back in shape!
actually it reminded me of desolation
didn't do anything, and i don't really get how it scored so high. it's an incoherent rendered demo (ex the colourscheme) with stock objects and seen-before effects at best. not bad at all, but nothing really special, imho. nice watch, nevertheless.
