this is second masterpiece by ESI, megademo containing number of visually great parts and superb chipmusic. i like Lyra II better still, but this seems to be equally as great, just a matter of taste. this was also their last big speccy production, they went on to make some good stuff on quite unknown computer (which seemed to have big future back then) named Sam Coupe. so watch out for Lyra III on Sam Coupe if you are a lucky owner of this rarity or just leech the emulator... (remember - emus suck!)

a cool thing about this demo is that in the part third part the music is very very similar to the song "i wanna give you a lick with my razor-tongue" by the swedish latino star DJ Mendex ;)
maybe mendez used to watched speccy megademos in the early nineties before he got famous :)

it was a Shock and it is still a Shock. anyway, all code was done by Kaz, except Mat's guest part. later they moved to Sam Coupe and then to amiga. Kaz was then kicked out of the ESI group and they vanished (but never stated anything like the end os ESI).

Well... "kicked out" is a bit of overstatemet ;) He left because of some internal differences (or maybe because a lot of differences). Unfortunaltely when you try to do bussiness there is no place for fun.

Movement to Sam Coupe looked sound these days but after that we seemed to lost interest in demo scene (and there was actually no movement to Amiga - guys did some coding, but if I remember correctly never released anything real) and then we moved to the "real world". Even though there was no official end of ESI it (as the demo group) died somewhere in 1992-1993. For now I own the company (well... I'ts just me actually so not much of owning ;)) under the name of ESI, so you may say it's still alive :D

mat: are you behind this demo also?
added on the 2006-01-23 15:40:16 by lai lai
lai: wow! I didn't thought this one was stored anywhere ;) Yes. That was one of my attempts to do something relaxing - GBC was quite nice platform to code.

A real classic. The best for many years! What can I say more? Just watch it and feel the atmosphere of those old days of early 90's, when we all were young... umm.. I STILL DO SCENE STUFF! Yohoo!!! :)

This (together with Lyra II and Pentagram's LSD) was the classic Polish demo that inspired many Russian (Ukrainian, Belorussian) sceners - Code Busters and Dream Makers just to name a few. When it appeared in Russia in early 1993 (imported and disked by some lockal hacker who obviously had contacts with Poland), there was nothing like that before. Everyone was literally shocked and I remember ZX Review article where they suggested using multicolor part of this demo as a compatibility test for numerous Spectrum clones.

There were a lot ot tributes to ESI and Pentagram later in Russian and other xUSSR demos and those groups will forever remain early Speccy scene "gods" for us :)

I still like to listen to Ziutek's tunes which are now available through Project AY :)

By the way, in the last part (epilogue) of the demo, KAZ writes that they would be trying to get in touch with someone from Russia (I wonder why, Russian ZX scene was nearly non-existent back then) and I wonder, if they really did :)

I love this demo!

BTW. The soundtrack in the third part is Pulstar by Koto, not DJ Mendez. Ludzie ogarnijcie się.
