Yes shadows are cpu calculated (no use of shaders at all). I've done some tests, there is a speed fall with some drivers : i couldnt get the same framerate i've had when making video, cause i had changed drivers (dont remember with version), but yesterday i installed the last nvidia drivers, i just tested now to launch it : i get 20fps (more than in the video) on my gfFX5700 - Athlon 64 3200+. So try with the last drivers.
