yeah, i had the weird association with medium too only a bit more blurry.. :P Prolly the vivid colours make the association.

It's a nice demo in overall and not a visu-demo as i would have expected from FR since visu joined them... Lovely, keep going! :)

Back to Black? It really made me think of fr-06: black 2000 and while the visuals are interesting and the sync is spot on the music wasn't really my taste. Maybe it'll grow on me over time but i think i have to give it a piggy for now.

Ok. Very nice ideas, but the rythm of the demo is a bit messy. Like Aleen I find that it's close the black demo series, plus a nice medium (Red and Blue) touch.

thanks for the feedback so far!

making this demo was great fun, and i'm glad it's done. the average demoscener shall no longer think of psytrance as the dutch-colored-music ;)
it's strange to see people comparing it to medium because i didn't think of that demo once.

But the music didn't got me in, sorry ...

this is a demo which would probably rule so so so so so so much at a party, on the big screen and with a bad-ass sound system... but watching it at home was pretty much non-exciting. The visuals are technically impressive, but not my taste, and the music, although well done for its style, needs a very defined mood to really enjoy it.

Thus, only based on my personal taste (which noone has to agree to), it's a piggy. I'll let the thumb available just in case I can watch it in a different mood which suits me better (or, why not, put it on my bigscreen and phat soundsystem at my office). So let's call this a "piggy with a future possibility of thumbs up". Very much worth the download anyway, and I do recommend everyone to, at least, watch it, and, if possible, enjoy it :)

thats exactly the same what i am thinking. medium is somehow really different. as "a deepness in the sky" by mfx was released it reminded me more of medium.

not this one.

this is by all means a GREAT demo. style, sync, music, sparkling graphics. But i leave my thumbs be for two reasons. first, it was terribly slow (about 10 fps) on my gf-fx5200 + 1,8 ghz. and secondly, i was kind of disapointed by the lack of originality and artwork here (for a farbrausch prod). Fr has done way better prods in the past, this was kinda lets-throw-together-some-bad-ass-code-jam-and-sync-it-like-a-real-disco... which can be a killer at the big screen but didn't quite fetch me in my chair with the headset. But keep going farbrausch!
added on the 2003-12-30 13:45:23 by Duckers Duckers
it´s not slow. runs fine on my machine (1,4 Ghz, Geforce2, 1024x768). and the demo itself rulez.

sorry... my mistake. No it isnt slow :) just my system that was messed up at the moment i ran it. Yes, its a good prod, but from farbrausch i expect more than good ;).
added on the 2003-12-30 14:56:13 by Duckers Duckers
I'm not sure if it's just sloppishly made or deliberately abstract, but the "textures" look a bit silly. It's certainly *not* bad as demos go, but I'm not going to party naked on account of it.

can't understand all the medium comparisons at all, this reminds me of Poem to a Horse if anything ...

Medium was much more abstract and raw, maybe it's tje reds and the sparks ... sheesh
If the animation had been far more aggressive, this would have been a good demo.

thanks everybody for the words of appreciation.

"But i leave my thumbs be for two reasons. first, it was terribly slow (about 10 fps) on my gf-fx5200 + 1,8 ghz. "

blame the drivers. it runs perfectly on my 1.2ghz gf42ti. expect a fixed final or fixed drivers from nv soon.

the demo was really ment to allow you to dance to it. if you choose to sit while watching it, you'll be unsatisfied. and to those who "expect": we are individuals. our work is individual. we have a common label but this doesnt mean we have to stick to a corporate identity or something. we just realize ideas.

everything has been planned in this demo, we really thought about the stuff we did (or we at least believed we did). you should enjoy the music on a good sound system btw, on crap systems you wont get out any nice sounds.

I must admit this is not quite what I was expected when downloading. (Not that it really matters what I expect.) Pretty damn cool.

The trees reminded me of this demo: http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=7420

If I had to bitch whine complain about one thing it would be the all too common scene habit of sticking everything in dead center. At this point I must confess to taking some cinematography course earlier in my life, so I probably look at frame composition with a more critical eye than most. But still, to me Moppi Productions is the only group that put significant thought into framing

All the same, this is a radical gnarly boss demo.

I mean techno doesn't mean there mustn't be chord progressions.. :-)

thom: watch the demo again a few times. the center objects are ment to distract from the background, which also holds some details. however yeah, thats a nice idea to follow: putting more in the background.

phred: the music i did was also part of the concept. we wanted dark goa music, such as spirallianz or midi miliz are producing. i even went a bit away from the scheme by adding more "israeli drive" to it, but i refused from doing any relieving melodic progression in the center of the music, because i wanted the music to be gripping/grinding - see the ending as a kind of "release" of the listener, telling him that its all good again in some way. i'd really like to read some nice interpretation attempts about our demo. ;)

lovers: please dont just say you love it or you like it... i'd really like to know what you liked.

paniq: Dead center creates a dead frame. This can be useful in a "moment of silence" or end of a work, but during times of motion it is not the best way to visual place an object on screen. I can easily think of many moments in this demo where ancient concepts such as "rule of thirds" would've helped tremendously.

For example, you have that space ship moving about in most scenes. Offsetting that with whatever it's flying around would create a much greater sense of depth. Dead center elimates depth completely.
Actually, even the screenshot above is a good example. If you cover up the left one third the remaing image begins to look more lively. The dynamic of the "ship" moving towards the object is more pronounced. Subtle, but that's what good cinematography is all about.
And I'll tell you one thing I really liked: The flag stones (or whatever) were not flat and even. They were all crooked and stuff. That's a nice touch.

Just call me optimus...
fuck you are right. STOP THE PRESS! WE DO THAT AGAIN!

--- i suppose thats what keeps demo development alive ;)

anyway, thanks for the tip. thats helpful.

Well, I can appreciate the work that went into this (and that it has a 16x10 mode for my laptop! Yay, now two demos that take advantage of widescreen!) but it's not my thing. It's very German übertechnoish. And what's with the German colorscheme: Black, blue, red and purple? Whee! All in all pigface.

it's worthless - and again, it wouldn't deserve any comments. but although i should have learned better, i can't hold it this time: the people who made this obviously lack the slightest idea of composition in every single dimension being used or missused. and the "nice interpretation" is: you don't have the slightest talent. you should better stop doing this, it's annoying.

It's a nice demo. Nice and clean psy trance track (must have rocked at the party) and the visuals worked ok. It only feels like something is missing, to really kick the wow factor.

This looks like medium in the sense that both demos are red-blue-white on black and synced to dance music (although medium used house). Apart from that, they are obviously alot different.

tee: ist doch okay ;)

nytrik: i'm not very bound to technical aspects. we just choosed what we liked. its more that we work with our demo system like you work with a 3d tool: of course it is capable of doing a lot more than what was shown - on the other hand, cp had his own imaginations about how the visuals should look and all technical limits we encountered could be solved - so, yes, if you can not find anything interesting for you in the aesthetics, you might find the technical side pretty reduced. then again you might say that we always are bound to our talents or capabilities at a specific moment in time - to be true (noize has quite a point there) we have made ourselves guilty of not pushing ourselves completely to the limits. there is simply no excuse for that and all i can give you is the promise that we will try harder in the future. i'm sorry if you are disappointed.

nytrik: well, my comment of this demo is further up in this thread. What's good looking and not is clearly a subjective matter and pleasing everybody is not an easy (if not an impossible) task, but farb-rausch usually manages to please the better half of the crowd and they have good hardware compatibility.

If you checked the poll at scene.org some time ago that asked what graphic cards people use/intend to get, ATI got 59.1% while NVIDIA only got 37.6% so I find it somewhat ignorant to release stuff that only works on NVIDIA-cards, and even more disturbing that they don't even care to fix it for the final. If people want to use shader-stuff in their demos, they should atleast make it work on all cards that support it.

i really hate to see the bashing going on here between lthe 1st and 2nd ranked prods - i enjoyed both and found them visually and musically pleasing (i wonder why people ramble about paniq's track, i must say it really accompanies the presented visuals well and creates a certain mood, just good stuff imho).

the whole display adapter vendor support thing is merely a detail, not something to endlessly trip over, certainly not if, like the kolor guys gracefully did, admitted that it was a matter of production focus (very understandable, it's more fun to spend the little spare time you have on building an actual demo than writing several codepaths for an engine (which should be redundant, but thats another discussion, really)); disappointment is okay, bashing people over it continuously is just plain boring.

back to the subject; both demos were quite different, but i really can't say that one is better than the other; it surprises me that people present their opinions as a fact a little too much to my liking, since as a_lee_n already stated, taste in these kind of things is so to say, 'fucking subjective'.

where i wanted to go: both are obviously productions with a solid quality level, each with their very own direction. either like or dislike, but as opposed to a *lot* of productions here (totally indiscriminately in respect to who they come from) i think it's unfair to say that either one is crap.

oh well.. uhh. yeah, i'll get back to the beer now :)

As usual I'm gushing over Paniq's tune. The demo itself isn't bad but may be a tad too random art for me to actually know what to do with it.
dairy: the code and the visuals are around 2mb large. the rest of the size belongs to the soundtrack, because we didn't accept the loss of sound-quality if the sizelimit was not an issue.

i found it odd that people call it generic, to me this is one of the most well done and good looking farbrausch demos to date.
i sort of feel a slight resemblance to fr-03, RunAwayResponsibleRemix, and to Medium as well... just with more glow :)

the music is great, especially the "orchestral" string part around 4:20, altho it doesn't remind me of goa... it's more like techno i guess, at first i thought it was a ronny track :)

oh yeah, the alt-tab bug is really annoying, please fix that :) and add always on top too :)

definite party demo, i wish i would've seen this one on the big screen. works still pretty well on a monitor, too. overused high saturated / contrasted colors work surprisingly well and are refreshingly different from the current mainstream. on the other hand all this flashy, glowing, glittering look is already overused. but heck, what am i complaining about when i still enjoyed watching this demo quite much.

This sucks big time!

Just read NFO:
"made using the werkkzeug by
dierk.chaos.ohlerich & thomas.fiver2.mahlke
...
hi, this is paniq speaking. the source of
the idea for this demo shall be a mistery,
..."

I remember that there was some kind of demo making program for Amiga called: "Demo maker". So this demo (I suppose) is some kind of 'creation' made with such util... and we all know how we used to call that peoples back then :->

beside this is not so different than a simple slideshow.
Just look at it! Beside all latest FR demos have very similar look and feel!
I must emphasize two demos:
art director - visualice - gave to FR-31 demo great graphics and good 'art' direction...
and Fiver2 done absolute GREAT job with FR-25: t h e . p o p u l a r . d e m o)
but all new demos from FR are very similar... I don't see any point in making demos with 'demo maker program' !

long live fiver2 and chaos!

werkkzeug is the editor for one of our (farbrausch) demosystems. you don't seriously expect us to stop using our own code, do you?

and i don't exactly get how you can whine about "all new demos from FR" being very similar and in the same paragraph saying how much you liked our two previous demos either.

FR-Products look like similar? bahh.. every single Demo from FR rules... but FR-025 was more than great... Hope this Piece will win at the Scene Awards in the Best Demo, Best Soundtrack and Best Effecs categories ;) - And this one is also really great and absolutly ruling :)
added on the 2004-03-05 16:56:53 by Sapphire Sapphire
I don know how werkkzeug look like but if you have visual 3D util for creting demos - than every person can create demo using this tool and you can produce 10, or more, demos per months and all of them would be at average quality, just like this FR-36 is!

Look, I do like FR-25 and FR-31, more than that - there are masterpiece! ...maybe FR-32 is also quite interesting :) ... but they are far better than FR-36 or ... and all FR demos have same look and feel - as you said 'you don't seriously expect us to stop using our own code, do you?' this is main point: maybe because of this all yours latest demos look similar, no mather who done graphics or who was art director (someone have more talent or skill - so demos look great)...

...anyway you have best coders - but go futher!

or maybe I live in past... I watched how borders vanishing from screen in Atari ST demos... take a look at http://www.cpu.lu/ulm/techtalk.html ...

Plase! I maybe was to rush but I think that:
FR-36 is a step back in comparasion to FR-25 and FR-31!

The point of a demo-tool like this is to seperate the work of coders and designers and to accelerate the demo development. The coders develop the tools and leave the design and direction to the gfx'ers. This makes the dev process of a demo a more efficient and flexible one. And yes, this means everybody could do a demo with 'werkzeug', but that does not reduce the effort behind the system on behalf of the coders, nor does it reduce the effort behind the content on behalf of the artists.

There is a certain difference between a tool that lets you make an intro/demo any way you want, and a program that helps you make a few variations on RSI megademo...

But don't mind me, I'm drunk... and heading for my bed. I can't believe I'm actually posting bullshit in a pouet thread after coming home on a friday night.. *sigh*

this demo just becomes better and better for each time I watch it. I love that the track is dark until the relieving end where the chords become pompous (<-correct spelling?) .. I tend to think that the timetraveller is racing in that handlike ship pictured in the lower right corner of the screenshot. This object appears in all the scenes(I think). The tree objects kick ass! And also.. I love the "blur"/"glow" as opposed to some other people commenting here.. Sharp edges suck ass..
