if this demo has a story i didn't get it. Definedly not my favourite style.
added on the 2001-04-16 15:15:47 by dodke dodke
you should read the book "le petit prince" from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the inspiration of this demo.
the artistic work is fucking great and nice, same with their cartoon render engine.
about the story, i doubt there's one. looks like more little clins to the book.
it's nice and a bit different (even if Moppi Productions already ruled in the same style)... but i'm afraid of getting a bit bored at the 2nd or 3rd watch.
added on the 2001-04-18 10:28:26 by fred fred
it's a beautyfull démo, maybe the caillou did can be like this, but without time they did can't !
so, it's a good demo, for non-scener :)

The "petit prince" visit different planets - this is the story. He starts at his own littel planet (well - you are able to see _how_ little it is, when he throw an apple around the planet), then visit the winter planet, the water planet, the desert planet and the technical planet (so i forgot one?).
I _really_ like this one. Great Engine, great work.

Simply great !
i love the cartoon + phong rendering, and the 3d models are very good designed, the music is not bad.
Just a scene replayer but very good designed and pleasant style, a must see, a new style of demo i think (i dont see any greets in it?)
yeah, this demo is great design-wise, i particularly like the theme because the little prince is one of my favorite books (along with the lord of the rings and jonhatan livingstone the seagul) ...

but about the cartoon rendering engine, it sucks !!! since WHEN cartoon rendering needs a p3+geforce2 ??? and i wonder HOW do the kolor guys manage to NEED these 128Mb of RAM !!!

hey, they've already done very good realtime raytracing, i can't understand why this OGL engine crawls so much !!
added on the 2001-04-19 16:34:35 by flure flure
Is anyone else here sick of pure 3d demos? I dunno about the engine, it ran nice on my system, and yeah, it looks nice, and yeah, the story/ idea was decent. But it was just a 3d scene viewer... I'm not saying its easy, but it's totally unoriginal. Was there a single "effect" in here? I don't remember one. Just a lot of objects. Good gfx, good snd, good code, crap design.

a nice 3d cartoon which has a same problem as many 3d cartoons around - it gets boring after 3-4 watches..
rulez added on the 2001-06-01 08:40:34 by bhead bhead
best thing about this demo is raytrayza's muisic. also i like the cartoonish rendering, but it gets boring after you've watched it a couple of times.

Very nice. Very dynamic and bouncy. Chaotic but still very much in control. Unique. Cute. But where were the baobabs?
rulez added on the 2001-06-24 12:08:20 by DiamonDie DiamonDie
yes, this is really nice.. but as people say.. it gets boring after 2-3 times, but still it is a nice prod and i really love that cartoon-style 3d

great moment on big screen. very boring on my screen :)

best cartoon rendering i've seen so far. nice idea, horrible cewl look & music :)
an absolute must see, even for those who find 3d demos and such rendering boring.

good work on the models, nice ideas. the music doesn't fit that good though
added on the 2001-08-29 19:38:04 by robotriot robotriot
its got a funky music, its fast and thus doesn't get boring, it also got the atmosphere rite to the book (and they said they didnt read book before making this demo ;D)..
and there is no story at all, but the show of this kind doesnt need one.. i bet if there was a story, it would be boring!
rulez added on the 2001-10-04 15:02:48 by raver raver
Erhm... just "good" technically... the rest...
added on the 2001-10-24 02:38:10 by Zafio Zafio
Cool 3d cartoon, even thought it does not have a story or anything resembling one (it could of taken some more of the deeper meanings from the book by Saint-Exupéry, which I enjoyed, but o well.) It is true that it gets boring after a few "watches", but that is because not including the nice visuals, it has no structure. Like a bowl jello or something--> Groovy lokin' but flavorless. (Hmmm... or something like that)
rulez added on the 2001-11-08 04:42:15 by Nezbie Nezbie
The cell-shading is great, and the concept of going to different little worlds is really neat. Great to watch once. Unfortunately, it's not so interesting the second time around...
Really cool idea, but this runs far too slowly on a TNT2 Ultra. I worry about this upcoming MS :/

Very good modelling and splendid music.
rulez added on the 2002-02-23 03:50:26 by dairos dairos
One word: beautiful.

Only the music doesn't fit. The SFX make the tune fit to the demo, but the theme itself doesn't say anything to me.
rulez added on the 2002-02-28 12:59:11 by kb_ kb_
Yes, it looks very very nice, but still, it's too choppy, and the tune is, as said, too pointless. And the story is altered too much.
Nice demo, but I'm not sure if it's a winner...
rulez added on the 2002-02-28 13:57:11 by Gargaj Gargaj
btw, I am sure that the idea ain't original (I mean, there is a cartoon movie/serie which looks exaclty like this), but the demo is quite magic, even if the soundtrack is unfitting, here and there...
rulez added on the 2002-02-28 14:17:38 by dixan dixan
Opps... after a doublecheck I guess I confused the original book pictures (http://martine.org/lepetitprince.html) with the cartoon I saw when I was six yo or something...
added on the 2002-02-28 14:40:16 by dixan dixan
One of the first cartoon rendering demos, AFAIK, which it should get some credit for, but as a "story demo" it simply doesn't work that well, lacking a real story (at least for those of us who have never read "Le Petit Prince"). Overall, works OK, but they could have done a lot more out of the concept, IMO :-)
added on the 2002-06-12 02:49:29 by Sesse Sesse
I most deffinetly like this. It fits the book Le Petit Prince really great, with a boy wondering about everyday stuff. And they have done an incredible work on making it 'cartoonish'. Really nice!!!
rulez added on the 2002-07-01 21:45:57 by FreeAll FreeAll
this is a great demo, best at that party, but it has nothing to do with the book and some of the character animations are just awfull.

arrrrg. this book would have made such a great demo. but they wasted it. robots and "der kleine prinz". no no no no!

what is left is great athmosphere in perfect style, and a 3d-engine that get's it running, and thats a lot!
rulez added on the 2002-07-02 00:29:42 by chaos chaos
this demo rockz. it´s very fresh. The Planet Idea is cool. hmm, the robot?
I think the robot is a simple poser model to fill the last scene. is it a poser model? i don´t care if it is so. The robot got ugly polys and a bad color, thats all ;) STILL KICK ASS DEMO

added on the 2002-07-27 05:20:27 by bizken bizken
the rendering's really cute. but they could have made much more out of this storywise -the camera's way too hectic (moving ALL the time - some fixed camera scenes would have calmed everything down a lot) . and if there was a story, i didn't get it.

they had a graphics artist, a coder and musician - what they lacked is a director.

btw, it's buggy as hell on my G450...

To me this prod is 20 times more interesting than ordered superset. read about it in PaIN and it was well worth it to see this demo. Bravo!
rulez added on the 2002-08-14 05:06:37 by mconstant mconstant
mconst: Actually, I prefer ordered superset. This one have a nice rendering, but is too slow.
(and the other reason is that I love Ordered Superset, one of my favourite intros, actually =)

Not quite love at first sight. At first, I disliked the demo and its plastic look, but now that I've seen it on my newer gfx card again, I enjoy the motion and the models and the overall well executed theme.

actually perfect!
the music fits really well, a bit reminds me on siren's musics in the Jazz Jackrabbit series, and as the demo is so game-ish, it was a shot!

gfx were great also. cartoon rendering 4eva! :)

what, i have not commented on this yet? one of my favorite demos, and always something i show to people when i want to show them _good_ demoscene stuff. really lovely style, and music! raytrayza definetely belongs to my top3 of scene musicians.

rumours say that the small prince is modelled after avenger/blackmaiden. =)
rulez added on the 2005-07-08 13:31:36 by dipswitch dipswitch
Its well done and designed, but I still am not able to really like it. The music is not my cup of tea, neither is the gfx style.

How about making another demo about this book? Kolor hasn't paid any "exclusive licence fees" to get a monopoly on the making of demos about "le petit prince" ;-)
