that's some hot generated geometry!
dear matvei & al. - maybe you missed this?
"- - to render a version of the 3 minute film at 100 frames per second PAL resolution took about 8 hours."
just let mr statix make a realtime version in peace if he's so inclined, he even said he'd release the source.
and when he does that, if you rip the algorithm, at least please use it for something else, ok? I'm not looking forward to seeing this same tree 100 times next year :) |

tomaes - so....? :)
obviously it's made from a photo, that much is evident to anyone - no need to see the original. but compared with the original, the proportions and shading don't match very well, so it's just drawn looking at the model, nothing more sinister. in other words, what was your point? :)
thumb up for the greatest mag ever, of course. |

| I liked it, and the OS X port worked nicely - multiplatform is a good thing. |

fascinating modelling, and I like the quietly creepy atmosphere. though I think the music could do without the kasparov samples - it just gives you a "have I seen this before" feeling which this demo doesn't deserve.
Looking forward to the final! |

barock, it sounds pretty damn good if you got over 2000 downloads in just a few days for a scene production that's not a demo - congratulations!
so what exactly makes you think people would prefer a html site and it's not worth doing a second issue??! I don't get it... |

yeah, pretty much as oldschool as you can get on PC and not suck. (kind of strange sentence, that)
GBU is overall a nice watch; long, really effects focused, a soundtrack that keeps it going, and just look at the sheer drabness of those colours - these days everything is so fucking shiny...
seems like the party ranking is missing: this got 2nd at tp3. the compo was won by Untitled by Dust, which to my recollection is much shorter and pretty boring, but has a Doom part that was impressive in that day & age. goes to show that gamer voting at big parties isn't anything new.
I wish this were on the DemoDVD, but it just didn't get enough votes against the likes of 2nd Reality and Crystal Dream 2... |

1993 gabber flashback?
the music gets on my nerves, but it's not so unbearable in this context as I really enjoyed the demo overall. maybe I just haven't been getting my fix of frantic tekknodemos in the past years :) |

ok, I guess I’ll comment on this too, now that I’ve finally had the chance to watch it.
part 1 is something of a letdown, to be honest. it seems like more of the same old same old. blobs, tentacles, additive layers - screen after screen, absent-mindedly stuck together. there's one screen that looks uncannily like tour by pulse. that was 4 years ago... it’s all still pretty, it always was, but by now it feels like drugged old elvis performing to a lunch crowd in las vegas.
but then comes part 2, and it’s from a completely different planet. this is easily the best haujobb demo ever. the familiar visual style is updated in interesting ways, it flows so much better than the sedated style of part 1, the music kicks ass, and finally the nice coded effects really enhance the overall look&feel (I hope the days of 3d scene player slideshows are gone for good). it’s a great demo.
and really, anyone who thinks this kind of demo is trivial to make is full of shit. let’s not forget that the haujobb demo style as we know it is essentially a one-man show. any artist gets self-derivative at some point before moving forward. besides, it’s not like visualice needs to care about my opinion or anybody else’s who’s vain enough to spout their judgements here on pouet - winning 1st prize at tp and asm in row is achievement enough, he can just laugh all the way to the bank so to speak :)
yep, seems like the news of elvis’s death was quite premature :)
(btw, no hard feelings about the harsh part 1 comments I hope, I was going for the right litterary effect you know... ;)) |

hmm. why did they have to tweak it? I remember liking the original somewhat better (though it's been a while since I've seen it, no more dos)
but who really cares - with this amazing piece of music, it would be an immensely enjoyable demo even if it only showed one flatshaded cube (I guess it would be a replay production then) |

thi$ i$ pr€tt¥.
what's the point in complaining about the size, sure it could have been 3 megs smaller with some (lower quality) tracked music, but maybe they didn't have a tracker musician at hand, or perhaps they just wanted to use this specific piece - is that a crime? |

I liked this one a lot. it was annoyingly difficult to run though, it needed a p133 or something like that, so I had to underclock my k6/200 to 120 mhz.
also, the music was completely screwed up by the player, but it actually sounded pretty good with the terrible distortion :)
was there ever a final version? |

brilliant screenshot there!
and a brilliant demo of course. I think this was the first demo I saw, along with lunatic by extreme, which got 2nd at the same party (and fear/extreme complained in the pulse diskmag that the deadline was extended "just for triton"... lol)
both ran just fine on my 386sx/16. sweet nostalgia =) |

I like it a lot, and I like even more the fact that it's not a party release. I can't remember the last time I saw a release from a major group outside a compo... (feel free to refresh my memory)
Cool music, nice inverted colors, some great looking effects (the "beauty" voxelthing was very pretty). I'm glad they didn't overdo the synch either, I'm really bored of obvious bang-bang beat syncing that still seems to be in fashion.
But as pouet tradition obliges to whine loudly about meaningless details whenever possible, I'll say that the text boxes bother me. They're big and useless, and disturb the nice effects. Since most of the time there's really no need to say anything at all in a demo, I wish people would just let me watch the effects instead. |

what's with the perceived social stigma about liking this demo, it's not like some fucking te2rb is the only good demo ever :D
I liked it too, though I haven't seen it in years. but err, yep, just one look at that screenshot reminds that this demo indeed had some of the ugliest texturing ever accomplished. but they really did have excellent code. |

| Classic, fabulous graphics (for the time), great music (ripped/borrowed, though..) and of course very nice effects considering that it indeed ran very well on a 286/16. It doesn't get much more oldskool than this on pc :) |
