  demo
Saint by Halcyon :: da Jormas
Tribal electronic music supported by synchronized flashes and saturated colors. Awesome mix of flat shading and anti-aliased lines. From the tunnels to the funky cube this demo is just mind blowing !

Its design hasn't age an inch ! I forgot about it and accidently stumbled upon it on YouTube ! In some way I think it inspired me to design a mega-demo I released years ago. Atari ST* forever !

It didn't work with my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 so I had to watch the video, it sucks considering its a 4k production and the video is 60 MB large ! The spheres cloud effect is pretty cool and well rendered, it's like if it was realtime rendered by a raytracing engine like POV-Ray - so it's cool. The objects reacting to the electronic music is also a good idea and thanks for referencing the toxi.in.process blog post !

Realtime Generation by Fairlight :: ASD :: Alcatraz
It didn't work on my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 so I just watched the video. The sphere effect and metallic visual are pretty cool but it's quite repetitive considering its size (nearly 20 MB) and I didn't really like the music. But waiting for the sphere to open is pretty cool and its ambiance reminded me of films like Cube and Event Horizon.

Damn I can't make it work but I remember a very joyful, shiny and colourful demo.

About Crest comment, 3D demo ? I remember a 2D-only demo with cool colourful effects... I'm probably out of memory :)

  Groovy by Bomb!
Bomb! style : good code (Skal), good graphx (Made) and overall good design. So sad the jazzy music sucks. I still can't believe it didn't finish first at the Volcanic 1998.

3D engine demo that won over Groovy by Bomb! (Still can believe it). The dancing scene was funny but it's only the interesting thing in the demo. However the light & shadow room was impressive. But it lacks personnality and design.

Some cool effects and don't forget to use DOSBox to make it work on your high-end PC.

Some slowdown on my Athlon 2 GHz but a pretty well designed demo. I specially liked the shiny colors and overall bloom effect.

It works just fine with SainT 2.0. A new version is always a good excuse to watch ST demos :)

  Jumpy by Digital Murder
I think most people don't understand why this demo is so great and should have come 1st the Volcanic 1999. The important thing is to understand that the dive-in effect (zoom in the zoom) is pretty original and on most computers, it's just a green and ugly blur effect. Yeah ! But on the big screen on the Volcanic party, it was amazing and people were screaming, it was sooo impressive ! I couldn't believe it myself... « They did it ! ». The surfer, the music, the drumer, the words... This was the Demo. I can't believe the other one did win. Probably because most people don't understand that 3D is not anything in a demo.

Jumpy! rulez. That was the best party ever ! I can't forget it my demo came last :).

100% ELT music rip. Shame on them. What about copyrights ? Respecting the band's work ? 1st rippers rank, that's what they really won.

Glorious software demo but they only rock at 320x240 so don't even try 1024x768 on a 2 GHz AMD, no no ^^. So nothing special to say, could be better :).

I really enjoyed the ADN and blur effects but then some kind of 3D blobbed cows appeared... The tune began to bark and... Thanks it was the end :). A bit disappointed but as the first effects wer pretty cool... Let's say it's ok. For that time only ^^.

It smells like software, yes it is ! The tune is not original for a penny but I like it anyway, upgrade your sounds bank :). Cool blur effects everywhere, specially when cross fading it to a picture. Don't really like the end though, nothign compared to the pretty dark effects of the beginning.
